Law School Graduation

Picture19192

It has been three years, a few moves and callings, two miscarriages, thousands of pages of reading, hundreds of hours of studying, long nights, lonely days and way more money than I am comfortable thinking about, but Charles finally is done with school. I have never been so proud of my husband than I was today watching him get hooded and receive his degree(and he got it right there, so he really did graduate...he was thrilled to know that he didn't fail anything).

JRCLS Flag Football Game

Charles plays football with some of his friends from law school.  Last night was the first game this season that Sydney and I could go to.  We had a great time watching Charles and playing with her friends who came to cheer their dads on as well.

Honestly, I think this was the only time any of the kids actually sat still.

This is maybe a more accurate picture of what these three and four year olds do...all the time.

Picking Up Papa

We walked/rode our bike to pick Charles up from school. Sydney was so proud of herself to make it all the way to the law school on her big bike.

Nauvoo, Illinois--Day 1

For the weekend between Charles' summer term of classes and the start of the fall semester, we decided to take a little family trip and go to Nauvoo, Illinois.  We left EARLY in the morning to beat a huge thunderstorm that was heading right towards Lincoln and then had to drive around all the flooding up and down the Missouri, so the six hour drive took closer to seven or eight.  But it was totally worth it.

We made it!

Fun fact...Charles and I went to Nauvoo on our honeymoon, six years ago to the day this picture was taken.

Sunset on the Mississippi is such a fun show...if you get to go to Nauvoo in the summer, make sure you watch it.

We saw an old friend perform with BYU Synthesis...but it was a late show and we didn't get to stop and talk to him, since we had been up since 5 and were SO ready to go to bed.

Bragging

I'm so proud of my husband who got B's and A's this semester in law school.  Those are good grades normally, but with the semester we had with a broken toe and me being so sick for so long and then miscarrying, they look even better.  Throw in his job and he did Freaking AWESOME!!  Way to go, honey!

Girl Time

DSC_7063

I expect to be spending a lot of one on one time with Sydney soon.  Deer season started on Saturday and Charles spent a few hours out hunting.  Add to that his regularly busy schedule and the upcoming finals and it all adds up to a lot of time when Charles is away.  Not that we weren't expecting this when we decided on Law School, but it does make me wish we had a second car, some times.

Here, we made pizza for dinner.  Sydney was so excited to help make the pizza, she knocked the container of olives on the floor.  Thank heavens for Swiffer Wet Jet.

Sydney and I went to the zoo with a bunch of our other Law School mommies and kids friends.  Sydney just loves going out with her friends and playing.

The best part of the day for Sydney was probably riding the train.  She was SO excited!

Broken

Well, fractured might be a better word.

The JRCLS at the law school plays flag football every fall.  Charles has been looking forward this since last year when they lost in the championship game.  Well, their first game was last night.  They played the ROTC here at UNL and apparently the game was pretty rough.  Charles came home with a huge bruise all around his pinky toe and with his toe and ankle swelling up.  We iced it and elevated it and gave him some ibuprofen and sent him to bed.  This morning, he got up and was getting ready for school, when he realized it hurt to put his shoe on.  And it hurt to even walk on with just flip flops on.  So, he contacted his professors and told them that he would miss class and we went up to the Student Health Center.  After some examinations and a few (painful) x-rays, the diagnosis was a fracture in his pinky toe.  He's got an wicked cool bootie thing that he has to wear for at least the next week and maybe up through the next month.  No matter what, he's not allowed to play football next week...wife's orders.

Today is a Good Day!

Picture8326

  • It's Cinco de Mayo. What a great excuse to hang out with friends and eat Mexican food!
  • We have spinach and lettuces growing in our garden!
  • The sky is a beautiful blue and there is very little wind!
  • Charles is done his last final of his first year of law school!
  • We have eleven days before his next classes start! Can you say "do fun things?" (That's what Sydney wants to do every day..."fun things.")
P.S. I know her face is horribly dirty here, but the happy expression matches how I feel today...So I'm going with it.

07 December 2009

Oh, the weather outside is (going to be) frightful...

We are getting ready for our first Nebraska winter storm (not my first one, but still). It's predicted we will get up to twelve inches of snow tomorrow, not including the three inches we got on Sunday and the one to two inches we got tonight. Schools across the state have already declared themselves closed for the day tomorrow. Hopefully, UNL isn't going to be one of them, as Charles has his first final tomorrow and we don't want it to be rescheduled.

22 November 2009

Waiting...

Charles is still working on his open memo for his Legal Writing class(it's due tomorrow.) I think at this point, neither of us can wait for Tuesday afternoon, when we head out to my parents house...a whole hour away. It's especially exciting since Trevor and Julie will be there AND it will be Talia's birthday. We're quite excited!

Family Day at Law School

Every year the law school has a meet the families day. We get to meet some of the other law students' families and also meet some of the deans of the school.

Behind Again

I feel as though I'm constantly behind on this thing. I really do try to keep up, but these last few months have been rather busy with getting ready to move, family visits, trips out of town and birthdays. But, I'm happy to say that we do have an apartment lined up to move into and we know what ward we will be attending when we get to Lincoln.

I'm hoping to get the rest of our backdating done in the next few days, but I won't make any promises. If nothing else, you'll hear again from us here when we make it to Lincoln and hopefully before we come back to Utah for Trevor's wedding.

Yikes!

Picture 2712

This has felt like my life for the past month.

We are getting ready to move to Lincoln, Nebraska for Charles to attend law school and it's just been kinda crazy. I keep meaning to blog and hopefully I will have more time in the next few days.
