Almost Famous
Know what that is?
It's a Black-bellied Whistling-duck.
(photo from Wikipedia)
And this picture is of a pair that we found at Pioneers Park Nature Center today.
Apparently this is a BIG DEAL.
See, their native range is mostly in Central and South America and a little bit of the USA. And this was the first one ever seen at Pioneers Park. So when we came into the Prairie Building and asked for a field guide to look up what kind of duck it was, they got pretty excited to find out it was so rare. So, they called the local Audubon Society, who called us to ask for pictures...and then confirmed that they are indeed Black-bellied Whistling-ducks and that with our permission, they would post a blurb about it in their newsletter.
So, you see, we're almost famous.

Speedy Kids
So the picture is blurry, but that's kinda how life goes. We were watching Damon and I pulled out some fruit salsa with cinnamon chips and the two of them were chowing down on it. Of course, as soon as I whip out the camera, Damon runs off...but you can tell he was there. That's his blue sippy cup in the picture.

Today is a Good Day!
- It's Cinco de Mayo. What a great excuse to hang out with friends and eat Mexican food!
- We have spinach and lettuces growing in our garden!
- The sky is a beautiful blue and there is very little wind!
- Charles is done his last final of his first year of law school!
- We have eleven days before his next classes start! Can you say "do fun things?" (That's what Sydney wants to do every day..."fun things.")

Strawberries
So, I went a little crazy and bought 11 pounds of strawberries last week. I made strawberry jam (100 ounces of it...we gave some away) and strawberry syrup and saved the last of it for some yummy strawberry smoothies.

Babies
We spent the weekend at my parent's house and when we came back, we noticed a couple of doves flying around outside of our bedroom window. Today, we looked out and saw that they had built a nest and laid a couple of eggs. Sydney is so excited and keeps checking for baby birds.
Lunch at the Law School
We went up to the Law School today to have a picnic lunch before Charles took his second to last final. It was a beautiful day and we can't wait for him to be done with the first year of law school.

Mom's Birthday
Chocolate Overdose Cake... delicious and rich, just the way a chocolate cake should be.
Happy Birthday, Mom!

April Showers
So, it has been pretty wet here recently. The other morning we woke up to more rain and this squirrel hanging out outside our window.
It must have been pretty wet, since he didn't move for about five minutes...even with Sydney banging around the window.
