Stories from a Flashcard

Picture19612

When your father is studying for the Bar, the stories get a lot more legal and a lot less exciting.

Doritos

Picture19172

This picture is for my dad, who seems to have passed his love of Doritos and spicy food down to his granddaughter.  Here, she is eating the last of the crumbs of the bag that Charles bought for them to share.

Spear Fishing?

Sometimes I wonder about our child.  This is what we found after conference today. Even worse, Charles is slightly proud that she skewered the poor gold fish cracker.

They want to Ride her Bicycle

All the kids on the block love Sydney's tricycle and this is why...

Drama Queen

So, Sydney is a "peanut butter and jelly sandwich a day" type of kid. Pretty much every day she has one for lunch (except for the days she has "cracker lunches" (lunchables--we're working on getting the name correct). Today after church, we came home and I asked her what she wanted for lunch.  She replied a peanut butter sandwich.  I told her that we were out of bread (which is true, I forgot to pick up some when we were out yesterday).  She looked at me, and then at the floor and said in a quiet, sad little voice, "oh no....what should I do?  I guess I just won't have lunch."  Thankfully, chicken nuggets and cow cheese were an acceptable substitute for her sandwich today.

Of Squirrels and Elephants.

Picture12934

Chelsea had asked Sydney at one time what her favorite animal was and Sydney replied that it was a squirrel.  So, when Talia found one at Jo-Ann's she had to get it for her.  My parents brought it out one day when they had an appointment in Lincoln.  They asked Sydney what her favorite animal was and she replied, "An elephant."  Thankfully, the squirrel was still very exciting.

Goofball

So, every night, after we read our scriptures together as a family, we sing a song.  Tonight, we were singing Once There was a Snowman the normal way and then backwards (you know, where he defies nature and grows instead of melts).  When we were done with, Sydney turns around and shouts, "SIDEWAYS!!"  We just couldn't stop laughing, she's catches onto things like that so quickly.

Sydney and Damon

I watched Damon for a little bit this week. Sydney was SOOO excited for him to come over. When he got here, she ran and got her princess gear on and came out and laid on her pillow in the living room, calling out "Kiss me, Damon, Kiss me!" When that didn't work, she turned to me and told me, "Make Damon kiss me, mommy."

Apparently, Damon didn't want to kiss her since a little later, he shut her in her closet. Ahhh, two year olds.

Shopping with Sydney

Picture6888

Sydney found a new way to stay with us shopping. Charles totally brought this upon himself, since he told her she needed to hold onto his pockets, but never specified which ones.

Mexican Bean

Picture6713

Picture6714

This kid loves Mexican food. Seriously, call the meal a taco of any kind, and she'll eat it.

*Funny story about that title. When Sydney was born, Charles worked at a call center and we would bring him dinner every night. One night, one of the callers heard him call her "bean" and asked him why he was calling her a racist name. We just laugh about it.

Pre-Wedding Jitters?

I hope Trevor doesn't hate me for posting this...

I don't know if Julie had problems sleeping the night before the wedding, but Trevor had no problems.

Cute girl

Sydney has been pretty cute recently. She tried to dress herself this morning. I had put her in an old t-shirt of mine for breakfast and she insisted that her arm was supposed to go through the neck hole. Then, she had on her pants, pulled up only to just under her diaper. (Originally, she had both legs in the same pant leg, but I'm not a cruel mother...I fixed that one for her.) And then, she had her t-shirt for the day on...pulled up on her legs, with one foot going through an arm hole. It was quite the sight. I'll get the picture I took up here later.

The other night, she tried to put a diaper on one of her stuffed animals. She would lay the diaper out, then turn and get the duck, then have to fix the diaper again. This went on for a while. Then, she finally gets the duck on the diaper and pulls it up around it. Then, she gave the duck a hug and used it for a pillow to "sleep" on the floor.

She's also started saying her colors along with you when you read her colors book to her. It's just repeating what we are saying, but it's a start.

Poor Charles

So, if you've been to our apartment, you have more than likely seen Charles' recliner. That big, ugly, blue thing. Well, it died tonight and Charles is in mourning. He sat down in it tonight and leaned back and it just completely broke. It was amazing! Here, see for yourself...

So, while I feel badly that he's lost his friend (Charles is protesting my sorrow...calls it false), it does mean that we can get a new one that looks nice and fits us both. Like a nice armchair from Ikea. Hmmm...I think I'll dream of that tonight.

Charles' reaction...he claims a red fern is going to grow in our living room now.

Pants!

Sydney's way of putting on her pants.

Oh Deer

So, we were supposed to go camping tonight with our ward, but due to extenuating circumstances, we decided to just stay for dinner. On our way home, we kept seeing deer on the side of the road eating and trying to cross the street. As we got to the mouth of the canyon, Charles exclaimed that "we're alot less likely to see a deer down here." We come around the corner and there is a deer right in the road! Charles honks the horn and swerves and we completely miss the deer as it runs off the road and into the brush. It took us a second to recover, but then we laughed pretty hard and kept on coming home.

Per Charles Request

This morning, after I got out of the shower, I came in our room to find Charles and Sydney watching football and singing this song.

For those who may need translation, the words go like this:

Baby farts, my baby farts
My baby farts for me!

And then she adds her part.
