Bonneville Dam

We went to visit the Bonneville Dam and the fish hatcheries on the Columbia River. They were quite the sight to see. Charles' grandfather designed some of the dams on the river, so we went to check them out.

The Columbia River was really full. This is the dam and all of the gates were open to let the water out. The whole way along the river, Dale and Elaine were telling us that they had never seen the river so full. In fact, Portland got at least four inches of rain while we were there.

The dams have fish ladders to let the salmon (and other fish) swim upstream to mate. We were a bit early for the salmon and the water was really murky, so we didn't see many fish, but it was still interesting.
